Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions and design collaboration through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and maintain ownership of individual features.
  • Define, monitor, and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers, consolidate duplicated solutions, and maintain shared components.
  • Improve testing, verification, release automation, and nightly build processes.
  • Lead planning and determine appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Handle critical issues and own feature releases delivered to QA.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and provide opportunities for growth.
  • Drive team process improvements and address recurring technical problems at their source.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including testability limitations and appropriate test strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to introduce engineering practices that remain adopted by the team.
  • Experience influencing teams through process changes and managing related friction.
  • Ability to determine appropriate review depth based on system risk.
  • Track record of building reusable solutions adopted by the wider team.
  • Ability to explain how a team works with AI agents.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and interest in advancing Android UI/UX.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong self-direction.
  • Open-source Android experience and experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS preferred.
