Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from product decisions and design collaboration through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and maintain ownership of individual features.
  • Own and improve reliability metrics for key product areas.
  • Unblock engineers, consolidate duplicated solutions, and establish shared components and practices.
  • Improve release processes by reducing manual intervention and expanding automated verification.
  • Lead planning, determine appropriate review and approval processes, and drive improvements to team workflows.
  • Handle critical issues, feature releases, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while communicating team constraints early.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and provide opportunities for growth.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test strategy and appropriate testing limitations.
  • Experience introducing engineering practices that continued after direct advocacy ended.
  • Ability to lead workflow changes and manage the friction associated with them.
  • Ability to determine review requirements based on system risk and behavior.
  • Track record of building reusable tools or systems adopted by the broader team.
  • Ability to explain how engineering teams use AI agents.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and motivation to improve Android UI/UX beyond specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong self-direction.
  • Open-source Android experience preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, web, or Node.js preferred.
