Description

  • Own major Android features end to end, from design decisions through release.
  • Write production code, review pull requests, and provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Own and improve reliability metrics for key features.
  • Unblock engineers and consolidate duplicated solutions into shared, maintainable components.
  • Improve testing, verification, release automation, and nightly builds for QA.
  • Handle critical issues and oversee feature releases.
  • Run planning and establish appropriate review and sign-off processes.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering while representing team constraints.
  • Mentor early-career engineers and provide opportunities for growth.
  • Drive improvements to team processes and address recurring technical problems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or ownership of a major product area while remaining hands-on.
  • Expertise in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, background services, music player services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit.
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background functionality.
  • Strong understanding of software testing, including test strategy and limitations.
  • Track record of introducing processes or technical improvements that teams continue using.
  • Experience building shared solutions used by the broader engineering team.
  • Ability to evaluate appropriate levels of code review based on system risk.
  • Experience working with AI agents at the team level.
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and strong Android UI/UX judgment.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to drive difficult process changes.
  • Self-directed approach to improving products and codebases beyond specifications.
  • Open-source Android experience is preferred.
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or Node.js is preferred.
