Description

  • Develop structural design concepts from a clean sheet and size vehicle structures based on flight loads.
  • Collaborate with engineers across vehicle systems to balance mass, cost, and capability in design decisions.
  • Create detailed CAD models in NX for components, assemblies, and vehicle integration.
  • Build finite element models and perform structural analysis to validate designs.
  • Use hand calculations and empirical formulas to rapidly assess and iterate on designs.
  • Validate designs by building development articles to test joints and design elements for strength.
  • Perform structural testing on subassemblies and full airframe sections.
  • Partner with build engineers and technicians to improve designs and production outcomes.
  • Support hardware assembly in the factory and own end-to-end processes for flight hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with mechanical design and analysis.
  • Experience designing, analyzing, building, and testing high-performance mechanical systems (preferred).
  • Experience working within interdisciplinary teams on challenging, complex problems (preferred).
  • Experience with FEA or multiphysics simulation tools such as NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or ANSYS (preferred).
  • Experience designing and executing qualification testing (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical first principles and structural analysis methodologies (preferred).
  • Proficiency in selecting materials and manufacturing methods for mechanical components (preferred).
  • Analytical/scientific programming experience with Python, Matlab, or Excel (preferred).
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to safely work at heights up to 500 ft, in confined spaces, with an air purifying respirator, and meet the listed physical requirements.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen/national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise eligible for required U.S. State Department export authorizations under ITAR.
