Description

  • Own and implement changes across the SaaS platform, including backend services, batch processing, data analytics, and frontend features.
  • Decouple the backend from the legacy frontend by creating a solid API foundation for a modern React-based interface.
  • Contribute to defining target architectures for current and future platform iterations.
  • Collaborate with backend, frontend, and hardware teams to deliver robust, integrated solutions.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to the codebase and engineering processes, with a focus on automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment strategies.
  • Mentor other members of the engineering team.
  • Stay current with best practices and rapidly adapt to new technical solutions.
  • Ensure GDPR, data security, and system security are upheld in day-to-day work.
  • Propose technical solutions that meet business requirements and resolve technical support enquiries.
  • Work closely with the Lead Engineer to shape the future state of the platform and evolve the technology stack.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience at a high mid to low senior level.
  • Experience delivering high-growth SaaS-based applications.
  • Experience with modern PHP Laravel (v12+) and Lumen.
  • Full stack development experience using JavaScript (jQuery).
  • Experience writing well-designed, reliable, loosely coupled object-oriented code, including SOLID principles and common design patterns.
  • Experience building cloud-native architectures to solve scalability and reliability requirements.
  • Practical understanding of Agile SDLC and embedding quality and security throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Experience using SDLC tools including GitHub, Jenkins, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Deep knowledge of relational databases, including schema design, profiling, and query optimisation, with MySQL preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Open-minded, forward-thinking, and willing to adapt to new solutions.
  • Able to take ownership and accountability for projects.
  • Cloud experience, with exposure to Google Cloud Platform being advantageous.
  • Understanding of Shift-Left and Shift-Right testing and why each is important.
  • Previous experience mentoring other engineers.
  • Familiarity with application monitoring tools such as New Relic or Nightwatch.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices including containerisation, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Experience with data warehousing systems, particularly Google BigQuery.
  • Experience using Node.js and TypeScript, or a willingness to learn.
