Description

  • Plan and conduct research to inform product and design direction across multiple workstreams.
  • Define end-to-end user flows, information architecture, and interaction patterns for secure, sensitive data exchanges.
  • Create simple, elegant user interfaces and evolve existing visual systems with clear rationale.
  • Uphold human-centered design principles and communicate their value to stakeholders, partners, and subject matter experts.
  • Balance user and business needs within an agile environment while advocating for the public and government workers.
  • Set design standards across the engagement and mentor other designers.
  • Serve as the primary user advocate and help ensure the team is building the right product.

Requirements

  • Portfolio showing end-to-end product design work for complex products, from research through accessible UI.
  • Ability to plan, synthesize, and present generative and evaluative user research.
  • Experience defining scalable end-to-end interaction flows with information architecture, design principles, common patterns, and accessibility.
  • Ability to create simple, elegant, and thoughtful user interfaces through visual design.
  • Experience contributing to product strategy by representing user needs and balancing user and business goals.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills with stakeholders, partners, and engineers.
  • Experience setting design direction across multiple workstreams or teams and mentoring other designers (principal level).
  • Ability to work effectively in a professional services environment and communicate with clients.
  • Passion for improving public outcomes through government services.
  • Alignment with Skylight’s core values.
  • Ability to travel for work from time to time.
  • Experience designing services that handle sensitive personal data (preferred).
  • Prior experience in civic tech (preferred).
  • Experience working in a remote-team environment (preferred).
  • All work must be conducted within the U.S., excluding U.S. territories.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. now and in the future without sponsorship.
  • Must successfully complete a company background check.
  • Some roles may require U.S. citizenship for federal contract eligibility.
  • Some federal contracts may require a degree or additional years of experience as a substitute.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with role-based ranges from $90,000 to $230,000 depending on level.
