Description

  • Develop and refine the Sierra Club’s organization-wide organizing model, culture, curriculum, and training framework.
  • Establish success indicators, evaluate program impact, and use findings to refine strategy and resource needs.
  • Set team vision, facilitate short- and long-term planning, and oversee annual training and direct-support programs.
  • Drive adoption and effective use of organizing technology, tools, analytics, and shared practices.
  • Partner with Field, Campaigns, Digital, chapters, and other departments to design and deliver organizing programs.
  • Manage up to eight staff through coaching, project assignment, performance management, hiring input, and professional development.
  • Manage the team budget and align resources with strategy; support fundraising, grant reporting, and presentations.
  • Stay current on organizing, training, learning, and volunteer leadership practices and incorporate relevant innovations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading impactful grassroots campaigns and managing organizers in technical and people-driven campaigns.
  • Deep understanding of organizing theory and methodology, preferably across multiple schools of thought.
  • Experience developing and implementing training programs, curricula, and facilitation for diverse audiences.
  • Strong visionary communication skills, including the ability to align and inspire stakeholders around goals and action plans.
  • Strong people-management skills, including accountability, collaboration, feedback, and remote-team leadership.
  • Ability to analyze interconnected systems across local, national, individual, and programmatic scales.
  • Experience with national field programs or membership-based, federated organizations (preferred).
  • Experience using organizing technology such as VAN, ScaleToWin, or Hustle (preferred).
  • Experience managing budgets, fundraising, grant proposals, or donor relationships (preferred).
  • Strong project-management skills and ability to comply with financial, employment, operations, and regulatory requirements.
