Description

  • Support epidemic intelligence activities in DRC, including development of outbreak situation reports, epidemiological bulletins, executive dashboards, and automated production pipelines.
  • Collaborate with DRC country office and HQ staff to map existing systems, data, and decision-making needs and define Collaborative Surveillance priorities.
  • Provide hands-on technical accompaniment, mentorship, capacity building, and knowledge transfer to DRC staff and counterparts.
  • Train country-based staff and government counterparts on DHIS2, EMS, R, R Markdown, GIS, and other data management and analytics tools.
  • Support development of the DRC Collaborative Surveillance workplan and budget, coordinate implementation, and prepare strategic reports for leadership and donors.
  • Coordinate with global and country-level partners, including WHO, US CDC, UNICEF, and others, to align Collaborative Surveillance efforts in DRC.
  • Provide technical oversight and methods to evaluate the impact of Collaborative Surveillance initiatives.
  • Investigate and develop surveillance innovation use cases, including wastewater surveillance, multiplex serosurveillance, genomic surveillance, and sample registration systems.
  • Collaborate with the epidemic intelligence team to apply AI, contextual data, and advanced analytics to forecast risks and outbreaks.
  • Synthesize operational learnings and technical innovations into dissemination products for the global public health community.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as public health, epidemiology, informatics, or statistics; PhD is a plus.
  • At least 12 years of experience in infectious disease surveillance and analytics, public health emergency management, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting public health operations and outbreak preparedness/response in Africa, with Ebola and/or DRC experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering end-to-end public health information products such as epidemiological bulletins and outbreak situation reports.
  • Experience building capacity-building training programs for public health professionals.
  • Full professional fluency in both English and French, written and spoken, is required.
  • Proficiency in R and R Markdown/Quarto for data management, analysis, and automated information product generation.
  • Familiarity with DHIS2 is an advantage.
  • Ability to work remotely and convene in person occasionally for team meetings.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30%.
