Description

  • Lead the development of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for Remote’s HR and Payroll products.
  • Actively participate in product work: provide feedback, suggest solutions, and use technical insights to influence product improvements.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
  • Review code, contribute to the shared codebase, and provide actionable feedback on code reviews.
  • Debug and resolve technical and business issues, and participate in support rotations as needed.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other engineers; participate in hiring, RFC discussions, and other non-team activities.
  • Investigate, propose, and implement improvements to the platform to increase reliability, performance, and developer productivity.
  • Implement interfaces and APIs with performance, accessibility, and scalable design in mind.
  • Design, propose, and operationalize end-to-end agentic/automation workflows (spec → plan → execute → verify) and build reusable agentic workflow primitives.
  • Use verification loops (tests, checks, evals, guardrails) to ensure results are correct, secure, reliable, and scalable.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping production systems that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
  • Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows (or comparable systems) and iterating to improve them.
  • Ability to think in systems: define specs clearly, break down plans, instrument verification, and close the loop on quality.
  • Experience with Postgres (or similar relational databases).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins or similar.
  • Experience with functional programming languages is a plus (Elixir, Erlang, Scala, Clojure, Haskell).
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS (nice to have).
  • Experience with frontend frameworks or frameworks (Next.js, React, Vue, Angular) is beneficial.
  • Comfortable working asynchronously in a fully remote, distributed team.
  • Willingness to participate in rotations and cross-functional activities (support, hiring, RFCs, etc.).
