Description

  • Lead the development of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for Remote’s HR and Payroll products.
  • Design, implement, and maintain tools, APIs, and integrations for product domains.
  • Actively participate in product work by providing feedback, suggesting solutions, and proposing product improvements based on technical insights.
  • Maintain deep understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives and contribute to the shared codebase.
  • Provide and act on feedback in code reviews and mentor other engineers to uplift team capability.
  • Debug and resolve technical and business issues, including participating in support rotations and non-team activities (hiring, RFC discussions).
  • Investigate, propose, and implement platform improvements to increase reliability, security, and scalability.
  • Redesign how engineering work ships by proposing and operationalizing autonomous/agentic workflows end-to-end (spec → plan → execute → verify).
  • Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives for repeated use across domains and apply verification loops (tests, checks, evals, guardrails) to ensure correctness and reliability.
  • Implement interfaces with performance, accessibility, and API design in mind and close the loop on quality through instrumentation and verification.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
  • Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows (or comparable systems) and iterating on them.
  • Ability to think in systems: define specs clearly, break down plans, instrument verification, and close the loop on quality.
  • Experience with Postgres (or similar relational databases).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and pipelines (GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins or similar) and frequent deployments.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams (Frontend, Backend, SRE, QA) and participating in product and operational activities.
  • Familiarity or experience with Elixir and Phoenix (tech stack used by the backend) is a plus.
  • Nice-to-have: Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and frontend frameworks such as React/Vue/Angular.
  • Comfort with async-first work practices and working remotely across time zones; available to start as soon as possible.
