Description

  • Lead the development of major team-scoped projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for Remote’s HR and Payroll products.
  • Actively participate in product work by providing feedback and suggesting technical solutions and product improvements.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
  • Contribute to and maintain the shared codebase, including providing feedback in code reviews.
  • Debug and resolve technical and business issues, and participate in support rotations as needed.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other engineers and participate in hiring and RFC discussions.
  • Investigate, propose, and implement platform improvements to increase reliability, security, and scalability.
  • Design and implement interfaces and integrations with attention to performance, accessibility, and API design.
  • Redesign and operationalize agentic/autonomous workflows as the default execution layer, including proposing end-to-end specs (spec → plan → execute → verify).
  • Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives and use verification loops (tests, checks, evals, guardrails) to ensure correctness, security, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Strong engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping production systems that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
  • Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows (or comparable systems) and iterating to improve them.
  • Ability to think in systems: define clear specs, break down plans, instrument verification, and close the loop on quality.
  • Experience with Postgres or a similar relational database.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and pipelines (GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins or similar).
  • Familiarity with the tech stack used at Remote (backend uses Elixir and Phoenix; front-end uses React and Next.js) — experience with these is a plus.
  • Exposure to cloud and container technologies such as AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes (nice to have).
  • Experience with front-end frameworks such as React, Vue, Angular, or Next.js (nice to have).
  • Comfortable working remotely and asynchronously across distributed teams.
  • Willingness to participate in non-team activities (support rotations, hiring, RFCs) and mentor colleagues.
