Description

  • Lead legal counseling for HRIS and AI products end to end, including compliance, risk controls, and legal review workflows.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Privacy, and Security to translate complex regulatory requirements into shippable product requirements.
  • Draft and negotiate product terms and AI-specific clauses covering data use, output ownership, acceptable use, and transparency.
  • Monitor emerging AI and technology regulations and turn them into practical guidance for product, design, and engineering teams.
  • Build and maintain core AI governance processes, including model inventory, risk classification, human oversight, and bias testing.
  • Work with Privacy and Security on DPIAs, TIAs, incident response, and vendor or LLM diligence.
  • Manage external counsel on complex multi-jurisdictional matters and drive practical outcomes.
  • Deliver legal enablement through trainings or office hours for internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with extensive product counseling experience; multiple bar admissions are a plus.
  • Experience advising on technology product counsel matters, with prior HR-tech exposure such as EOR, PEO, HRIS, or payroll.
  • Experience advising at scale across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong command of emerging AI frameworks, including the EU AI Act, UK approach, U.S. state and federal developments, and Canada AIDA.
  • Understanding of how AI regulations interact with data protection laws such as GDPR and CCPA, and employment transparency rules.
  • In-house legal experience preferred.
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup environment preferred.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using Slack, Juro, Notion, Google Drive, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience working remotely is a plus.
  • Experience working with AI/ML legal and compliance issues is a bonus.
  • Shipped at least one AI feature in production with an accompanying legal or governance framework is a bonus.
