Description

  • Collaborate with a cross-discipline team to design and implement new AI enemies, player objectives, and core gameplay systems.
  • Develop future AI-enabling systems such as navigation, perception, behavior, and combat prioritization.
  • Create and balance active and passive player items that extend base kits and function as meaningful inter-match upgrades.
  • Review work across disciplines and provide feedback to improve competitive readability, game feel, and player fantasy.
  • Create and maintain characters that align with IP quality, consistency, and sandbox design principles.
  • Partner with audio, effects, 3D, and animation teams to make gameplay affordances clear to players.
  • Establish effective design processes and help evangelize them across the design team.
  • Contribute to the overall gameplay vision in coordination with other disciplines.

Requirements

  • Intuitive understanding of second-to-second action games and why players enjoy them.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with designers, artists, programmers, audio professionals, QA, and producers in a flexible work environment.
  • Broad T-shaped rapid prototyping skills with strong technical scripting ability.
  • Enough multi-disciplinary knowledge to stub out gameplay ideas quickly and evaluate their potential.
  • Strong understanding of combat animation, including anticipation, follow-through, character timing, readability, and balance.
  • Proven ability to build alignment and own feature direction while maintaining empathy and collaboration.
  • Ability to operate autonomously and handle ambiguity, including giving and receiving feedback.
  • Understanding of PvP game design and balance across a wide variety of situations.
  • Understanding of how systemic, combinatoric game design can create player surprise and laughter.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience as a Sandbox/Gameplay Designer on a multiplayer action game, with experience designing, documenting, and building combat and character systems (preferred).
  • Experience delegating work or ownership to multidisciplinary peers (preferred).
  • Knowledge and perspective from playing competitive team games (preferred).
