Description

Provide technical direction to a team building reliable, performant, and cost-efficient storage systems.
Lead the architecture and evolution of online structured storage services for SQL/table and graph workloads.
Drive modernization initiatives, including migrating datasets and workloads to TiDB.
Improve query throughput and latency across 100TB+ datasets serving 1.5M+ queries per second.
Use AI to accelerate system design, evaluate architectures, and automate operational work.
Participate in on-call support, incident response, operational readiness, and blameless post-incident reviews.
Mentor senior engineers and develop future storage infrastructure leaders.
Lead design reviews, roadmap planning, cross-team alignment, and execution of complex platform investments.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years of backend software engineering experience in large-scale distributed systems.
Experience building or managing core infrastructure, distributed databases, storage systems, or large-scale data platforms.
Experience operating highly available production systems, including incident response, capacity planning, schema evolution, and performance tuning.
Strong knowledge of distributed SQL or NoSQL databases, including sharding, replication, consensus, or transaction processing.
Experience with graph or relationship-oriented data stores and query patterns is preferred.
Experience with TiDB or similar modern distributed storage technologies is preferred.
Technical leadership experience setting roadmaps, defining direction, aligning engineers, and partnering across teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data-driven decision-making.
Proficiency in Java, Python, and/or C/C++; demonstrated experience using AI to improve development, operations, or customer support.

Benefits

Base salary range of $177,185–$364,795 USD for US-based applicants, plus equity eligibility.
Flexible remote work model with in-office collaboration 1–2 times per month; role can be based anywhere in the country.
