Description

  • Own major areas of search, recommendations, notifications, and related ML systems serving more than 500 million monthly active users.
  • Define the team vision and ensure the work directly supports Pinterest’s business goals.
  • Manage and mentor a team of machine learning engineers, providing technical guidance and career development support.
  • Identify team needs and hire strong candidates to grow the organization.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams, including Advanced Technology Group, Infrastructure, Content Understanding, and User Understanding.
  • Partner with product management, data scientists, and design to shape content ecosystem and personalization strategy.
  • Provide visibility and updates to senior leadership on the team’s impact.
  • Build a culture of excellence and expertise within the team.
  • Drive technical strategy, planning, and execution for large-scale, low-latency machine learning systems.
  • Lead cross-team work on new product experiences and innovation projects.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, NLP, Statistics, Information Sciences, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development with a proven track record of delivering impactful solutions.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience managing a high-performing machine learning engineering team of 10+ members.
  • Experience leading large-scale production recommendation, e-commerce, search, or ads systems built on state-of-the-art machine learning and big data technology.
  • Strong experience in recommendation systems and applied machine learning is required.
  • Natural language processing and computer vision experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and drive strategic roadmaps for scalable, production-quality systems from concept to execution.
  • Strong focus on product impact and user experience in a consumer-focused environment.
  • Experience with Cursor, Copilot, Codex, or similar AI coding assistants is preferred.
  • Familiarity with LLM-powered productivity tools for documentation search, experiment analysis, SQL/data exploration, and workflow acceleration is preferred.

  • Base salary range of $189,308 to $389,753 USD for U.S.-based applicants.
  • Eligible for equity.
