Description

  • Own the multi-quarter technical roadmap for radar, lidar, thermal, and broader sensor simulation efforts.
  • Build physically accurate sensor models in modern C++, with radar as the primary focus.
  • Model RF propagation, RCS, Doppler, multipath, antenna patterns, and pre-detection radar output.
  • Validate simulation output against real sensor data and drive improvements based on measured accuracy.
  • Develop models for challenging environmental conditions such as rain, wetness, snow, and low visibility.
  • Extend validation rigor across the broader sensor suite, including camera modeling.
  • Partner with perception, ML, product, and engineering teams to translate real-world failure modes into fidelity requirements.
  • Provide technical direction and raise the team’s understanding of sensor physics.
  • Communicate technical direction and validation findings to customers and senior stakeholders.
  • Use AI tooling, including LLM-assisted coding and literature review, to accelerate research and implementation.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience building simulation, sensor-modeling, or computational-physics software that was deployed and relied upon.
  • Strong foundation in physics, applied physics, or electrical engineering, typically at the MSc or PhD level.
  • Experience with radar signal processing, automotive or industrial radar, or adjacent RF/electromagnetics work.
  • Deep understanding of one or more sensing modalities, such as radar/RF, lidar, thermal/infrared, or electro-optical systems.
  • Experience validating models against measured sensor data and analyzing accuracy, error, and discrepancies.
  • Strong ability to write, debug, and extend performance-sensitive modern C++ code in a large codebase with build systems and CI.
  • Ability to set technical direction and make independent judgment calls on where a domain is heading.
  • Comfort communicating across physics, engineering, product, and executive audiences.
  • Experience modeling pre-detection radar output, such as ADC-level or range-Doppler simulation, preferred.
  • Background in thermal imaging, radiometric modeling, material emissivity, or thermal scene modeling, preferred.
  • Experience with commercial sensor simulation, Tier-1/OEM sensor teams, Unreal Engine, ray tracing, GPU compute, or real-time rendering engines, preferred.
  • Domain experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, ADAS, or aerospace sensing, preferred.

  • Base salary of $155,000 to $175,000.
