Description

  • Own technical architecture across the services portfolio from pre-contract scoping through delivery and handover.
  • Lead solution design for OpenFn-based interoperability engagements, including integration strategy, data flow architecture, API design patterns, system topology, and deployment approach.
  • Consult with government and NGO technical counterparts on solution design and enterprise architecture strategy.
  • Evaluate proposed use cases for platform fit and recommend constraints or alternative designs when needed.
  • Set and uphold the technical quality bar across solution design, delivery, and deployment.
  • Develop internal standards, guidelines, and review processes for high-quality OpenFn implementations.
  • Mentor engineers and consultants in JavaScript competence and systems-level integration thinking.
  • Build and maintain a solutions architecture knowledge base documenting integration patterns, platform fit, and known limits.
  • Serve as the bridge between services and product by translating field learnings into product feedback and bringing roadmap awareness into scoping and planning.
  • Define and oversee deployment strategies and runbooks for local, cloud, containerized, and hybrid hosting environments.

Requirements

  • 10-15+ years of experience in solution architecture, systems integration, or technical implementation leadership.
  • Demonstrated expertise with integration platforms, middleware, or workflow automation tools, with familiarity with X-Road, OpenHIM, Kafka, Apache Camel, n8n, MuleSoft, Kong, Boomi, and/or WSO2 being a strong advantage.
  • Strong JavaScript/Node.js proficiency and experience with backend development and API integration patterns.
  • Experience setting technical quality standards and building the processes that help a team work to them.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including facilitating technical workshops with government and NGO stakeholders.
  • Experience in a consulting or professional services environment with client-facing accountability.
  • Ability to operate effectively in lean, distributed teams where judgment matters more than established process.
  • Familiarity with interoperability standards in global health or humanitarian systems, including FHIR/HL7, is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with DevOps practices in low-resource or sovereign-hosting contexts, including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and Docker/Kubernetes, is a strong plus.
  • Background working with digital public goods, open source, government digital transformation, or NGO technology teams in Africa, Asia, or Latin America is a plus.
  • Working proficiency in French or Spanish is a bonus.
  • Ability to work from home or a shared office space with fast, stable internet, preferably in a country in Africa/Europe time zones.
