Description

  • Write, design, and structure lessons, activities, worksheets, and interactives based on instructional models and product specifications.
  • Identify, vet, and edit grade-appropriate fiction and nonfiction texts for student use.
  • Develop formative and summative assessments and rubrics that measure progress against learning outcomes and standards.
  • Review content drafts from internal teams, freelancers, and vendors and provide editorial and pedagogical feedback.
  • Apply evidence-based learning science and science of reading best practices to lesson and assessment design.
  • Ensure all content aligns to relevant state ELA standards across K-12.
  • Design materials with scaffolds and differentiation strategies to support a wide range of learners, including multilingual learners.
  • Collaborate with freelance contributors, other LXDs, and product managers to maintain content quality.
  • Translate high-level blueprints into detailed design specifications and content outlines for scalable development.
  • Prioritize work and deliver content on time while maintaining Newsela quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, English, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in K-12 curriculum development, instructional design, or content creation.
  • Experience in educational technology or publishing is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of K-12 ELA pedagogy, standards, and effective teaching methods.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to produce polished instructional content.
  • Fluency with AI tools.
  • Strong organizational and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize work in alignment with business needs.
  • Prior classroom teaching experience in K-12 ELA is preferred.
  • Experience with digital content authoring tools or a content management system (CMS) is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a background check is required for employment.
