Description

  • Lead technical projects, timelines, and deliverables for NGS-based assays as a subject matter expert.
  • Design, develop, and validate automated high-throughput NGS assays for a commercial CLIA laboratory.
  • Mentor junior employees.
  • Design and execute complex experiments and analyze data using tools such as JMP, Python, R, and Excel.
  • Collaborate with assay development scientists on assay, reagent, equipment, and quality specifications for current and future production assays.
  • Work with Clinical Laboratory directors and Quality Assurance to ensure methods meet rigorous quality standards.
  • Coordinate with automation engineering, laboratory operations, bioinformatics, statistics, project management, and product management to drive project execution.
  • Write documentation and SOPs, train lab operations staff on protocols, and oversee validation activities.
  • Troubleshoot post-launch production issues and perform root cause analysis on automation, reagent, equipment, and assay failures.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to improve production workflows and shorten turnaround time for patient samples.

Requirements

  • MS with 10 years or PhD with at least 7+ years of experience in assay development and automation in the life science industry.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and validating automated protocols for CLIA laboratories.
  • Experience developing, implementing, optimizing, and troubleshooting high-throughput automated assays using liquid handler robots.
  • Strong understanding of nucleic acid extraction, NGS library preparation, and hybrid capture technologies.
  • Experience designing and executing studies for stability, guard banding, reproducibility, repeatability, and validation.
  • Experience working in regulated laboratory environments under CLIA/CAP, NYSDOH, or IVD is a plus.
  • Data analysis experience with JMP is required; Python or R coding skills are a plus.
  • Liquid handler programming experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, record-keeping, planning, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across CLIA, LIMS, lab operations QA, automation, and research teams.
