Description

  • Own the design, implementation, and delivery of major platform initiatives from ambiguous problems to production software.
  • Lead architecture and design reviews and influence technical decisions across the team.
  • Mentor mid-level engineers through code reviews, design docs, and pairing.
  • Build and improve AI-coding and agent-driven development tooling alongside the team.
  • Partner with bioinformaticians, scientists, R&D engineers, and the team lead on roadmap, prioritization, and technical decisions.
  • Translate R&D needs into platform capabilities that support production-scale workloads.
  • Drive solutions that balance simplicity, technical quality, and delivery speed.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience across a range of systems and problem types.
  • Production experience with a major cloud platform, preferably AWS; GCP or Azure also acceptable.
  • Production experience with Kubernetes or an equivalent container orchestration system.
  • Production experience with Terraform or an equivalent infrastructure-as-code tool.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one general-purpose language such as Python, Go, or Java.
  • Experience shipping software to internal or external end users.
  • Experience leading an engineering team and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Comfort owning multi-quarter technical initiatives.
  • Experience working in fast-moving, startup-like environments where results are delivered quickly.
  • Familiarity with the stack, including AWS, Kubernetes, Python, Go, Groovy, Terraform, Helm, Nextflow, WDL, Django, and React.
  • Preferred experience in scientific or bioinformatics computing, LIMS or laboratory data systems, workflow orchestration engines, ETL/data pipelines, or HPC/batch-compute platforms.
