Description

  • Lead and mentor a team of Bioinformatics Scientists and support their professional growth.
  • Own the research strategy for new product development from scoping through execution.
  • Oversee bioinformatics analysis for assay development, optimization, and troubleshooting with laboratory scientists.
  • Partner on study design, new technology evaluation, optimization, and performance determination.
  • Improve analysis methods for variant detection, quality control, methylation calling, fragment-size analysis, end-motif analysis, error suppression, and structural-variant calling.
  • Move research prototypes into stable production workflows and ensure production readiness.
  • Establish and enforce software engineering practices including version control, testing, CI/CD, and containerization.
  • Automate research data management, pipeline execution, and reporting.
  • Set standards for appropriate AI-assisted work and human scientific review.
  • Collaborate with data science, molecular biology, pipeline engineering, biostatistics, quality assurance, and laboratory operations on new products and production handoff.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Biostatistics, or a related field; M.S. with equivalent experience considered.
  • 7+ years in bioinformatics, including 3+ years leading scientists and working cross-functionally.
  • Experience owning scientific research that moved into real clinical use, not just generated results.
  • Experience developing or scientifically guiding diagnostic sequencing assays.
  • Deep expertise in NGS analysis, including hybrid-capture or amplicon-based target enrichment, sequencing QC, secondary analysis, and variant calling.
  • Experience with cell-free DNA sequencing and other omics data in a diagnostics setting; multiomics experience with methylation, fragmentomics, or related cfDNA signals preferred.
  • Working knowledge of diagnostic product development in a regulated, accredited setting such as CLIA.
  • Strong Python, programming, and data analysis skills.
  • Experience with long-read sequencing (PacBio HiFi, Oxford Nanopore), R, shell scripting, or Java preferred.
  • Experience with cloud computing (AWS, GCP), workflow orchestration (Snakemake, WDL, Nextflow, Cromwell), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) preferred.
