Description

  • Design, develop, and evolve production backend services and REST APIs using Python and FastAPI.
  • Build and operate a communications dispatch service integrating message queues and external APIs such as Braze.
  • Implement idempotency, retries, rate limiting, error handling, and failure-recovery mechanisms.
  • Integrate Azure services, relational databases, third-party APIs, and data processes on platforms such as Databricks.
  • Design and maintain Azure SQL persistence layers, including data models, migrations, integrity controls, and query optimization.
  • Improve production reliability and observability through monitoring, tracing, and automated testing.
  • Collaborate with development, data, and IT/DevOps teams on architecture, CI/CD, deployments, and technical documentation.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of backend development experience building, integrating, and operating production services.
  • Strong Python skills and experience building REST APIs with FastAPI or equivalent frameworks.
  • Experience designing modular, maintainable software using SOLID principles, separation of concerns, and automated testing.
  • Experience integrating APIs and distributed systems, including authentication, timeouts, retries, error handling, and resiliency patterns.
  • Experience with asynchronous processing and messaging systems, including queues, dead-letter handling, and idempotency; Azure Service Bus or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong SQL and relational database experience, including data modeling, querying, migrations, and ORM usage; SQL Server or Azure SQL preferred.
  • Experience with Docker and deploying containerized services.
  • Hands-on cloud experience, preferably Microsoft Azure, including monitoring, Git, and CI/CD processes.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor, or Spec-Driven Development practices (preferred).
  • Experience with Databricks, Kubernetes/AKS, Azure Container Registry, or Martech and digital engagement platforms (preferred).
