Description

Drive Explorer from pilot implementation to general availability by making architectural decisions, validating assumptions, and iterating toward a scalable design.
Design and build secure backend services, interactive data visualizations, and responsive user interfaces for Explorer.
Harden experimental systems for production readiness through reliability, performance, observability, testing, and operational excellence.
Shape technical priorities, manage dependencies, and document tradeoffs and alternatives for key engineering decisions.
Improve code quality, reduce technical debt, and strengthen secure coding, data privacy, and access control practices.
Establish and drive test strategy, proactively identify technical risks, and raise quality standards at the team level.
Produce high-quality documentation that supports knowledge sharing, onboarding, and long-term maintainability.
Mentor senior engineers and emerging technical leads, and lead technical discussions to build consensus.
Lead technical initiatives beyond Explorer across multiple teams and systems, aligning stakeholders on strategy, tradeoffs, and execution.
Organize incident response, lead post-incident reviews, and ensure remediation and learning are completed.

Requirements

10+ years of professional software engineering experience with full-stack fluency across multiple languages and technology stacks.
Deep hands-on expertise in system design, architectural patterns, and engineering best practices.
Experience with event-driven and asynchronous processing patterns, including tradeoff analysis across architectures.
Ability to reason about OLAP and OLTP data architectures and make sound system design decisions.
Experience taking a product from beta to general availability and navigating production launch demands.
Strong written communication skills for documenting context, alternatives considered, and decision rationale.
A test-driven mindset with experience defining and driving test strategy at the team or product level.
Solid experience with PostgreSQL, SQL, schema design, migrations, and query performance.
Experience with analytical or columnar datastores such as Apache Pinot, ClickHouse, or BigQuery.
Experience with Snowflake and dbt, plus data pipeline orchestration tools such as Dagster or Airflow.
Working knowledge of time series data modeling and caching layers such as Redis.
Deep experience with cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and production-grade software at scale.
Production experience with AWS and observability tooling such as Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, or Grafana.
Proficiency with Docker, Make, or similar build tools, plus environment scripting.
Experience driving secure coding practices, data privacy principles, and access control patterns in production.
Hands-on experience integrating LLM or AI APIs such as OpenAI into production applications.
Experience with geospatial or map-based data visualization and related JavaScript libraries.
Familiarity with voter file data, political data, political tech, civic tech, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations is preferred.
