Description

  • Develop and maintain automated software build and release workflows, including dependencies and toolchains.
  • Write and improve CI/CD workflows, packaging scripts, and installation scripts for Thunderbird across Linux, Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS.
  • Adapt build script changes from Firefox engineering teams into Thunderbird’s release pipeline.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex build, test, and dependency issues with developers and contributors.
  • Participate in process improvement efforts and help evaluate and design alternative solutions.
  • Support ad hoc projects related to release operations and automation.
  • Ensure Thunderbird releases are delivered on time and at high quality.
  • Engage with the open-source community to gather feedback and address concerns.
  • Collaborate across the broader Mozilla ecosystem on build system changes and release integration.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience in build and release engineering for Linux, Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS applications.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, Rust, Kotlin, and Java, including related toolchains and dependencies.
  • Strong understanding of Python and shell scripting for automation, version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience building, compiling, and release engineering native desktop or mobile applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to debug complex build and compile issues.
  • Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Working knowledge of distributed version control systems such as Mercurial and Git.
  • Experience with DevOps principles and cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP.
  • Strong ownership, ability to manage multiple simultaneous requests, and capacity to work independently and on a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills for a distributed international team.
  • Commitment to open-source development and open standards.
  • Bonus: familiarity with JavaScript and CSS for front-end support and integration.
  • Bonus: experience with Taskcluster or similar CI systems.
  • Bonus: low-level system experience with Linux, Windows, and/or macOS.
  • Bonus: familiarity with legacy build systems such as Make and modern systems such as Bazel, Buck, or Blaze.
  • Bonus: previous contributions to open-source projects or communities.

  • US salary range of $103,000 to $122,000, benchmarked to local markets at the 60th percentile of the peer market.
