Description

  • Lead a geographically distributed frontend engineering team responsible for Firefox’s in-product messaging surfaces.
  • Drive initiatives that deliver value through messaging and browser features while ensuring software quality, monitoring, and maintainability.
  • Balance rapid delivery with long-term technical and product trade-offs across a portfolio of messaging experiences.
  • Communicate team goals, project scope, risks, and delivery timelines to stakeholders.
  • Build and improve engineering processes that support a high-performing team.
  • Hold regular 1:1s to discuss technical work, professional development, and performance feedback.
  • Lead hiring efforts and help recruit for the team.
  • Support, empower, mentor, and develop developers across the full developer lifecycle.
  • Create an inclusive environment that engages and challenges team members.
  • Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, Operations, and Data Science to ensure roadmap success.

Requirements

  • 4+ years leading engineers in a software development environment and working across multiple distributed teams.
  • Software engineering background with the ability to drive technical decisions and work with engineers at all seniority levels.
  • Solid understanding of web technologies including JavaScript, React, HTML, and CSS.
  • Proven track record of leading and shipping sophisticated user-facing experiences on time in a loosely structured environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships across roles and seniority levels.
  • Experience communicating with senior leadership and advocating for engineering priorities.
  • Ability to resolve problems, manage risk, lead change, and facilitate collaborative decision-making.
  • Desire to grow as a manager, develop others, and achieve results through others rather than personal technical work.
  • Ability to hire, mentor, empower, delegate to, and develop geographically distributed team members.
  • Commitment to Mozilla’s values, including welcoming differences, being relationship-minded, practicing responsible participation, and having grit.
  • Preferred: experience guiding teams building AI-driven features with reliability and security.
  • Preferred: experience delivering AI front-end experiences to user-facing products.
  • Preferred: understanding of C++, Rust, and SQL.
  • Preferred: experience leading multiple teams or multiple large-scale concurrent projects.
  • Preferred: product management experience.
  • Preferred: experience working in open source environments or contributing to large open source projects.
