Description

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional squad to improve customer outcomes and deliver product work.
  • Build and support a specific part of Monzo’s banking platform.
  • Work across areas such as core banking, business banking, wealth, borrowing, growth, payments, platform, fincrime, security, and expansion.
  • Design and build backend services for a product used by customers every day.
  • Participate in system design and behavioural interviews as part of the hiring process for this role.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, analysts, writers, and other specialists on feature delivery.
  • Contribute to resilient software and distributed systems work.
  • Work on infrastructure and platform-related challenges across the bank.
  • Support production systems and services using Monzo’s internal technology stack.
  • Take part in a team structure that balances delivery, ambiguity, and business needs.

Requirements

  • Strong experience working on the backend of a technology product.
  • Interest in building a product used daily by customers.
  • Product mindset with focus on customer outcomes and data-informed decisions.
  • Comfort working in a team that deals with ambiguity.
  • Interest in distributed systems and writing resilient software.
  • Some experience with strongly typed languages such as Go, Java, C, or Scala.
  • No formal qualifications or degree requirements for engineering roles.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies; prior knowledge of Monzo’s stack is not required.
  • Able to work in the UK, with distributed working available within the UK.
  • L50 / Senior Engineer level target for this hire.
