Description

  • Build backend services, Python libraries, and tooling for internal ML engineers, scientists, and product teams.
  • Develop model lifecycle tooling, evaluation workflows, and low-latency serving systems for machine learning and AI features.
  • Design and operate production systems that are reliable, observable, safe, and scalable.
  • Work on platform APIs and services that support ML pipelines, feature engineering, experiment workflows, and LLM infrastructure.
  • Collaborate directly with teams across Monzo to remove friction and improve developer experience for internal users.
  • Support the deployment and serving of models and AI features used in fraud checks, credit decisions, and customer operations.
  • Contribute to the design and evolution of the ML platform as it grows.
  • Participate in system design and behavioural interviews as part of the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Strong backend engineering background with real ML or AI platform experience.
  • Experience with ML pipelines, feature stores, model serving, experiment tracking, or LLM tooling.
  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems that handle scale, concurrency, and failure.
  • Comfort working across both Go and Python.
  • Experience with AWS or GCP and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform, Envoy Proxy, and production infrastructure for reliable systems.
  • Experience with strongly typed languages and backend software development.
  • Curiosity about production behavior, including reliability, latency, quality, safety, and operational risk.
  • Ability to work in the UK; Monzo can help relocate to the UK and sponsor visas.
  • L40 engineers are currently the priority, but L30 candidates are also welcome.
