Description

  • Shape the ML strategy for Workforce Management and identify high-impact opportunities for ML, forecasting, and optimisation.
  • Lead the design, build, and delivery of production ML systems for forecasting, routing, assignment, escalation, and time-to-completion prediction.
  • Stay close to technical details by framing problems, selecting modelling approaches, defining validation, reviewing trade-offs, and shipping safely.
  • Work with Product, Engineering, Data, and Operations leaders to turn ambiguous operational problems into iterative ML systems.
  • Coach and develop Machine Learning Scientists through regular 1:1s, feedback, and technical guidance.
  • Set clear priorities, technical standards, documentation practices, and monitoring approaches for the team.
  • Contribute to the wider Machine Learning discipline at Monzo and help scale production ML practices.
  • Lead a growing team of Machine Learning Scientists embedded in product squads.

Requirements

  • Recent experience as a hands-on Machine Learning practitioner, such as Senior IC, Tech Lead, Team Lead, or ML Manager.
  • Strong foundations in machine learning, statistics, forecasting, optimisation, or operations research.
  • Experience building, shipping, or owning ML systems in production.
  • Ability to explain complex ML ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Enjoyment of coaching others; people management experience is preferred but not required.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces and applying models, algorithms, product changes, and operational processes as needed.
  • Interest in customer outcomes and building systems that resolve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Adaptability, curiosity, and enthusiasm for quantitative problems.
  • Experience with rigorous ML, forecasting, optimisation, or operations research problems is preferred.
  • Interest in or experience with leadership responsibilities and technical team development is preferred.
