Description

  • Lead practical, business-focused counseling on healthcare regulatory issues, including federal and state laws governing employee benefits, telehealth, licensure, anti-kickback, and corporate practice of medicine.
  • Advise product, clinical, and operations teams on how to design, build, and launch products and features in a regulated environment.
  • Manage U.S. and international regulatory reviews for new offerings and market expansions, including coordination with outside counsel.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and rulemaking developments in digital health and healthcare delivery and help shape the company’s positions.
  • Serve as legal advisor on privacy and data governance, including HIPAA, state health privacy laws, GDPR, ePrivacy, and U.S. state privacy laws.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, Security, Clinical, and Marketing to assess privacy and security risks across products, vendors, and go-to-market activities.
  • Support privacy-by-design initiatives, including privacy impact assessments, data mapping, consent management, and user-facing disclosures.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate privacy and data terms in vendor, customer, and partnership agreements.
  • Develop and maintain privacy policies, procedures, FAQs, playbooks, and training materials.
  • Draft and advise on legal frameworks for responsible AI/ML use, and establish review and validation processes for AI features before and after deployment.
  • Assess regulatory and compliance risks, support audits and internal reviews, and help operationalize controls and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Act as a thought partner to senior leaders and prepare reports and updates for executive leadership and the Board.

Requirements

  • Approximately 8-10 years of combined healthcare regulatory, privacy, product counseling, and/or compliance experience.
  • Experience at a healthcare or health technology company, a mid- to large-sized law firm, and/or a government agency in a heavily regulated space.
  • J.D. from a top-tier law school or equivalent with strong academic credentials.
  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar in good standing.
  • Meaningful experience advising on U.S. healthcare regulatory matters such as ERISA, ACA market reforms, anti-kickback laws, corporate practice restrictions, telehealth, and licensure.
  • Familiarity with healthcare privacy laws such as HIPAA and state health privacy laws, plus major privacy frameworks such as CCPA/CPRA and GDPR.
  • Demonstrated experience counseling on digital health or technology products in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on legal, regulatory, and policy issues related to AI/ML development and deployment, including responsible AI principles and data governance for training.
  • Knowledge of emerging global AI regulations, such as the EU AI Act.
  • Experience helping build or operationalize compliance programs, including policies, training, investigations, audits, or certifications.
  • Proven ability to work with technical and non-technical teams and senior leadership to achieve regulatory and compliance objectives.
  • Strong legal and business judgment, with the ability to provide practical, risk-balanced advice under time pressure.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, plus strong organizational, project management, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Curious, low-ego, collaborative mindset with strong integrity and interest in digital health.
  • Experience in global health technology or other highly regulated industries is preferred.

  • Starting annual salary ranges of $175,800-$206,800 in Zone 1, $158,220-$186,120 in Zones 2 and 3, and $140,624-$165,440 in Zone 4.
