Description

  • Shift quality left by joining refinement, story-writing, and design discussions to surface ambiguity, edge cases, testability concerns, and acceptance criteria early.
  • Work across the full testing pyramid, helping teams design and maintain fast, deterministic, trustworthy unit, integration, end-to-end, and system tests.
  • Rebalance test suites that are top-heavy, brittle, or flaky, and clarify what should be tested at each level and why.
  • Treat CI as a product by profiling pipeline performance, removing wasted compute, parallelising or sharding tests, and shortening feedback loops.
  • Improve release confidence by driving better environments, test data, and quality metrics across the delivery lifecycle.
  • Bring AI-assisted development tools into the quality workflow for test generation, test maintenance, code review, and faster feedback.
  • Mentor engineers through pairing, workshops, and reviews so teams can sustain a higher quality bar independently.
  • Assess team or programme quality maturity and drive a pragmatic improvement plan through delivery.
  • Influence and coach developers and stakeholders without formal authority, using worked examples and technical credibility.

Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on experience across the testing pyramid, including unit, integration, end-to-end, and system testing.
  • Strong software engineering ability with comfort reading, writing, and reviewing code.
  • Practical understanding of Agile delivery and shift-left quality practices.
  • Solid CI/CD expertise, with experience working on pipelines in tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or CircleCI.
  • Experience with end-to-end testing tools such as Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium.
  • Experience with unit and integration testing tools such as Jest, Vitest, JUnit, or pytest.
  • Experience with performance testing tools such as k6, JMeter, or Gatling.
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools and coaching others on responsible adoption.
  • Excellent mentoring, communication, and stakeholder-influencing skills.
  • Ability to quickly assess the quality posture of an unfamiliar team and earn trust fast.
  • Consulting or client-facing experience is preferred.
  • Exposure to performance, security, accessibility, or contract testing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with observability and production telemetry is preferred.
  • Community contributions such as talks, writing, open source, or broader mentoring are preferred.
