Description

  • Respond to patient billing and insurance inquiries through Zendesk within defined SLAs.
  • Place outbound calls to patients to resolve billing issues, account questions, and disputes.
  • Educate patients on billing and insurance topics such as coverage, copays, deductibles, EOBs, and telehealth billing.
  • Set up and document payment plans and patient financial arrangements in Athena.
  • Manage patient accounts receivable follow-up, including statement review, balance research, corrections, refunds, and rebills.
  • Execute the patient financial discharge process, including final balance resolution and required documentation.
  • Work claim hold and denial queues in Athena and prioritize aged and high-value accounts.
  • Research claim status, eligibility, benefits, and denial details in payer portals and Availity.
  • Coordinate with clinical teams, providers, and credentialing to resolve documentation issues, addendum requests, and provider enrollment-related claim holds.
  • Serve as a billing and insurance subject matter expert for the Patient Experience team and support internal escalations and special projects.

Requirements

  • 2–3+ years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle operations, preferably in telehealth or a high-growth healthcare environment.
  • 2–3+ years of experience managing patient and insurance accounts receivable.
  • Hands-on experience using billing platforms such as Athena, including claims troubleshooting and patient support.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines, including CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS.
  • Experience working remotely in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer service mindset.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Experience with payer portals and Availity is preferred.
  • Ability to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
  • This is a 3-month contract role and a 1099 independent contractor opportunity.
