Description

  • Support CAANZ certification activities for U.S.-based aspects and lead civil certification strategy with the FAA and foreign authorities.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority and liaison with regulatory authorities for U.S. certifications.
  • Manage new civil certification projects, including process standardization, assessments, compliance strategies, plans, issue papers, and risk assessments.
  • Lead and grow the Military Airworthiness and Cyber Certification teams, including setting priorities, mentoring, and reviewing technical work.
  • Oversee military airworthiness strategy and closure of MCRIs, issue papers, and related documentation.
  • Oversee cyber security certification strategy and integrate airborne cyber assurance with safety and development assurance processes.
  • Partner with process assurance and engineering leaders to integrate certification processes with broader assurance and configuration management frameworks.
  • Drive continuous improvement across civil, military, and cyber certification processes based on audits, lessons learned, and regulatory guidance.
  • Report program health and process improvement status to the VP of Airworthiness & Certification.
  • Build scalable and repeatable certification frameworks to support growth across civil and defense programs.

Requirements

  • Direct hands-on experience achieving FAA Part 23 and/or Part 25 type certificates, amendments, or STCs, including EASA CS-23/CS-25 or other foreign validation experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of aerospace certification experience with significant exposure to FAA and foreign certification processes.
  • 5+ years of experience leading or managing engineers, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management across technical disciplines.
  • Proven ability to lead certification efforts for complex or novel aircraft technologies from certification basis through closure or airworthiness approval.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills in cross-functional environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce high-quality certification documentation.
  • Experience with designee appointment and management processes and ODA management.
  • Strong working knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 21, 23, 25, and 183; familiarity with Parts 43 and 145 and Parts 91 and 135 operations.
  • Working knowledge of systems engineering, DO-178C, DO-254, MIL-STD-882, safety assessment methods, military airworthiness standards, DoD cybersecurity frameworks, and airborne cyber security assurance standards.
  • Experience with emerging aerospace technologies such as UAVs or advanced air mobility.
  • Preferred: experience with ASTM F3230 and F3061 standards or other Part 23 consensus-based certification bases.
  • Preferred: background in autonomous or unmanned aviation systems.
  • Preferred: prior experience in military operational environments.
  • Preferred: familiarity with machine learning-based software assurance and AI applications for process standardization.
  • Preferred: experience building or scaling certification functions in a growing company.
