Description

  • Provide on-call support for the client’s Unisys 2200 systems environment as part of a specialist team.
  • Monitor system health using standard Unisys tools and the client’s custom logging utilities.
  • Triage incidents and perform root cause analysis for serious hardware, software, product, and application issues.
  • Follow customer-defined processes for incident escalation, change control, testing, and production promotion.
  • Respond to emergency alerts and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
  • Monitor mainframe databases to help ensure data integrity.
  • Coordinate with application programmers, support teams, Unisys, and third-party software providers.
  • Prepare and submit trouble reports to Unisys and third-party vendors.
  • Implement approved corrections and coordinate change control for timely remediation.
  • Provide periodic management reports on system performance, anomalies, and risk mitigation plans.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in OS 2200 systems support, preferably with prior system programmer experience.
  • Strong overall understanding of the Unisys 2200 ecosystem, including the operating system, utilities, database, communications, transaction processing, third-party products, and application development techniques.
  • Experience booting OS 2200 systems.
  • Experience installing third-party products on 2200 systems, with familiarity with COMUS and SOLAR.
  • Experience with Unisys OS 2200 executive control language (ECL).
  • Experience obtaining and interpreting diagnostic data such as system dumps, logging, and tracing.
  • Exposure to security on OS 2200.
  • Strong incident triage skills, especially distinguishing hardware issues from OS, third-party product, and application problems.
  • Ability to work under pressure on time-sensitive, mission-critical issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging to different audiences.
  • Ability to read and analyze MASM (Unisys assembler) is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience as a 2200 system console operator is highly desirable.
  • Ability to troubleshoot integration points with external systems such as VAX Shop Floor, Oracle ERP, Unix, Web/Java, and Windows platforms.
  • Familiarity with the progression of Unisys OS 2200 ClearPath across the last 3–4 system base releases is helpful.
  • Experience with the STAR-1100 tape management system and virtual tape is desirable.
