Description

  • Perform remote DBA work for customers around the world.
  • Automate recurring DBA tasks and support tooling improvements.
  • Set up monitoring and perform periodic health checks on customer systems.
  • Provide performance, durability, backup, and recovery support for customer databases.
  • Help design new architectures and implement best practices for customer deployments.
  • Troubleshoot and fix database issues when they arise.
  • Participate in community outreach through blogging and social media.
  • Help build tools and enhancements around MariaDB products.
  • Improve team practices and common methodologies for the Remote DBA group.
  • Provide on-call coverage and support SLA commitments across cloud environments.

Requirements

  • Experience with MariaDB/MySQL and related tools.
  • Knowledge of SQL query writing and optimization.
  • Knowledge of database design, administration, development, or architecture.
  • Understanding of high availability environments and technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Comfort working remotely and collaborating through email, Slack, web, ssh, and similar tools.
  • Experience with a columnar database platform.
  • Experience with database proxying technology.
  • Ability to work a preferred Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday shift and provide weekend coverage as needed.
  • Ability to travel internationally for company-related meetings.
  • Experience in a 24x7 support environment (preferred).
  • Proficiency with backup utilities such as mydumper, MariaDB Backup, Xtrabackup, and mysqldump (preferred).
  • Prior support engineer experience with MariaDB, Percona, or MySQL (preferred).
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Go (preferred).
  • Sysadmin experience with Linux or Windows (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of other database systems such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, Postgres, RDS/Aurora, or MongoDB (preferred).
  • Contributions to open source software in the MariaDB/MySQL ecosystem (preferred).
  • Experience with MariaDB products such as MaxScale, ColumnStore, Cluster/Galera, or Clustrix (preferred).
  • Experience with virtualization software, cloud offerings, automation toolsets, containers, or monitoring software (preferred).
  • MariaDB and/or MySQL certifications (preferred).
