Description

  • Develop practical, innovative methodologies and tools to improve operational efficiency and situational awareness across MAG’s global programmes.
  • Lead research and development to advance the use of Earth Observation data and drone-based solutions in humanitarian mine action and weapons and ammunition management contexts.
  • Support decision-making by turning remote sensing outputs into actionable operational insights.
  • Lead partnership development to strengthen MAG’s theoretical and empirical practice in remote sensing.
  • Integrate environmental considerations into programme information management work.
  • Develop operational use cases and standard operating procedures for remote sensing projects.
  • Contribute to the application of remote sensing and GIS analysis in humanitarian operations.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with remote sensing systems and GIS software for data processing, analysis, machine learning, and visualization.
  • Proven experience leading remote sensing projects, including developing operational use cases and standard operating procedures.
  • A degree in a relevant field.
  • Strong project management and report writing skills.
  • Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and build effective partnerships.
  • Adaptability, proactivity, and willingness to travel internationally, including to challenging environments.
  • Formal training or certification in drone operations is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of international standards and best practices for humanitarian mine action and weapons and ammunition management is advantageous.
  • Experience with remote sensing platforms and sensor technologies, including satellites, drones, optical, radar, LiDAR, and multispectral systems.
  • Hands-on experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, ENVI, or ERDAS Imagine.
  • Familiarity with satellite imagery providers and datasets, including Copernicus/Sentinel, Landsat, Maxar, Planet, and Airbus.
  • Proficiency in machine learning techniques for geospatial data analysis, including image classification, feature extraction, and predictive modeling.
  • Desirable experience with drone data workflows, including flight planning, photogrammetry, and orthomosaic or 3D model generation.
  • Knowledge of safe operational procedures and relevant drone regulations.
