Description

  • Own data governance across source data, pipelines, reports, metric definitions, event tracking, BI workspace health, ML data inputs, and data security.
  • Build and maintain automated monitoring for data quality, freshness, schema changes, and pipeline health.
  • Investigate and resolve data incidents, including upstream breaks and report inaccuracies.
  • Create and maintain data lineage and impact analysis from source systems through warehouse models and dashboards.
  • Set up and manage Lightdash administration, workspace structure, permissions, certification, and rollout standards.
  • Extend and defend the semantic layer so metrics have governed definitions and controlled growth.
  • Govern Segment event tracking by reviewing new events, maintaining the catalog, and preventing drift.
  • Establish AI data readiness standards and control what internal AI tools can access in the warehouse.
  • Maintain access controls, PII handling, retention practices, and periodic security/privacy reviews.
  • Document governance processes, ownership models, and review loops that can scale without constant manual intervention.

Requirements

  • Governance is a core interest and craft, not just a side task.
  • Daily use of AI tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, or ChatGPT to build checks, automation, triage anomalies, and document work.
  • Hands-on senior operator experience writing SQL, debugging Airflow DAGs, and configuring permissions directly.
  • Automation-first approach to recurring checks and data quality processes.
  • Ability to enforce standards with engineers and analysts in a constructive, well-liked way.
  • Hands-on depth in the warehouse and pipeline layer.
  • Credible experience keeping a BI tool healthy at company scale.
  • Credible experience maintaining a tracking plan at company scale.
  • Experience with Redshift, dbt, Airflow, Segment, and Lightdash is relevant.
  • This is not a people-management role on day one; prior direct-report management is not required.
