Description

  • Design and build core components of MongoDB's distributed query optimization system.
  • Research state-of-the-art query systems to inform architecture and design decisions.
  • Define technical vision and direction for flexible-schema database optimization work.
  • Lead initiative-level planning, architecture, and execution for the team.
  • Advise management on roadmap, process, and architectural decisions.
  • Identify, implement, test, and support new features for query performance, robustness, diagnostics, and language enhancements.
  • Collaborate with engineers to coordinate changes across a large, feature-rich code base.
  • Work with adjacent teams such as client drivers, cloud services, enterprise tools, support, consulting, education, and marketing.
  • Mentor and coach team members through example and technical guidance.
  • Review code and participate in design reviews for new features.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in data management systems, distributed systems, or large-scale backend engineering.
  • Experience building production-level software for a large user base with strong design structure and rigorous code quality.
  • Degree in Computer Science or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong competency in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture.
  • Experience with large code bases written in C++ or another systems programming language.
  • Ability to trace defects, estimate work complexity, and plan component evolution and integration.
  • Strong foundation in core database internals.
  • Experience with query optimization is a strong bonus but not required.
  • Background in compilers, language transpilers, or distributed storage systems is also welcome.
  • Role can be based in a US office or remotely in the North America region.
