Description

  • Execute database migrations with enterprise and Private Cloud customers, including running migration calls and owning technical delivery.
  • Take ownership of the PlanetScale relationship and manage ongoing migration work from its current ad hoc state.
  • Productize repeatable migration patterns by documenting decision logic, edge cases, and downtime-tolerant approaches.
  • Automate recurring migration requests that appear across channels to reduce manual effort.
  • Support broader application and service migrations onto Private Cloud when database migration work allows.
  • Create runbooks, reference materials, and lightweight training that help Sales, Customer Success, and engineering operate more independently.
  • Monitor the competitive database landscape, including offerings from PlanetScale, Aurora, and Percona.
  • Flag gaps in Laravel Cloud’s database offering and advise on needed improvements.
  • Help shape the migration function as it evolves, including what should eventually become documentation, wizards, or self-serve flows.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of both MySQL and Postgres.
  • Direct experience with database migrations in a customer-facing role.
  • Comfort owning technical execution during migrations alongside customers and engineers.
  • Ability to identify repeatable patterns in bespoke work and package them into scalable processes.
  • Strong written communication and async communication skills.
  • Comfort working fully remotely and documenting knowledge clearly.
  • Ability to operate in a role where part of the scope is still being defined.
  • Experience at a database tooling or infrastructure company such as PlanetScale, Percona, or Vitess is preferred.
  • Experience building tooling or automation around migration workflows is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AWS-based infrastructure or PaaS environments is preferred.
  • Experience with AWS DMS or comparable migration tooling is preferred.
  • A track record of writing, speaking, or teaching publicly about database topics is preferred.
  • Some familiarity with PHP applications is preferred.
