Description

  • Plan and manage hardware builds from prototype through low-volume production, including scheduling, kitting, and coordination with engineers and vendors.
  • Track build status, bills of materials, and parts availability to keep projects on schedule.
  • Identify and resolve manufacturing bottlenecks and design-for-manufacturability issues with design engineers.
  • Own day-to-day lab and shop floor operations, including layout, equipment, tooling, consumables, and safety.
  • Maintain and calibrate shop and test equipment and manage service and maintenance schedules.
  • Own receiving activities, including inspection, PO verification, and inventory intake.
  • Establish incoming and in-process quality checks and manage supplier nonconformances, returns, and rework.
  • Source components and services, qualify vendors, and manage supplier relationships and delivery performance.
  • Create and maintain build, test, deployment, and documentation-control processes, including BOM and revision management.
  • Support field deployment by helping resolve logistics bottlenecks and preparing deployment documentation.

Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering, or equivalent education/experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing, production, or hardware build engineering, ideally in a prototype-to-low-volume environment.
  • Hands-on experience managing hardware builds and shop/lab environments.
  • Experience with sourcing, vendor development, inventory management, and materials management.
  • Working knowledge of BOM management, revision control, and documentation control practices.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple builds, deadlines, and stakeholders.
  • Comfort working directly with design engineers and translating design intent into buildable, documented processes.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and self-directed in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Proficiency with Google Docs and Google Sheets.
  • Ability to work daily in the Berkeley office and travel up to 5-10%.
  • Preferred: experience with NPI in a hardware startup.
  • Preferred: experience implementing or administering an MRP/PLM system.
  • Preferred: experience with camera and/or sensing system build, test, and calibration.
  • Preferred: familiarity with quality management systems and inspection processes.
  • Preferred: experience with field-deployed hardware or instrumentation.
  • Preferred: experience managing overseas vendors and international logistics.
  • Preferred: machining, fabrication, or 3D printing experience.
  • Preferred: familiarity with GD&T and reading engineering drawings.
