Description

  • Set the software technical direction, vision, roadmap, architecture, and standards baseline across programs.
  • Provide technical leadership across flight software, GNC, onboard autonomy, orbital compute, ground software, SDKs, and developer platforms.
  • Drive reusable, coherent software architecture and resolve high-risk cross-program technical problems.
  • Chair architecture reviews, technical decision boards, trade studies, anomaly investigations, and readiness reviews.
  • Assess software technical readiness at PDR, CDR, and TRR-equivalent milestones and recommend risk acceptance, waivers, or deviations.
  • Lead reviews of interfaces, real-time behavior, fault management, security, design evidence, and verification coverage.
  • Communicate technical decisions, risks, and recommendations to engineering teams, executives, customers, suppliers, and partners.
  • Build alignment across software, systems, GNC, payload, quality, product assurance, mission operations, and program leadership.
  • Mentor architects, software leads, and senior engineers while developing future technical leaders.
  • Drive software reuse, platform standardization, tooling, CI/CD maturity, and lessons learned.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including significant experience as a Chief Engineer, Software Architect, Distinguished Engineer, Technical Fellow, or equivalent.
  • Experience providing technical direction across an organization of 50+ engineers, multiple programs, and multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of the complete software lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through deployment, operations, maintenance, and anomaly resolution.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers, architects, and technical leads.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience establishing and executing an AI strategy across software engineering and the broader organization.
  • Experience driving organizational change, building AI fluency, and increasing AI adoption among technical and non-technical teams.
  • Preferred: experience with flight software, spacecraft autonomy, GNC, payload software, onboard or edge computing, or ground systems.
  • Preferred: experience with spacecraft operations, on-orbit commissioning, anomaly resolution, or operational software updates.
  • Preferred: familiarity with digital engineering, MBSE, requirements management, software assurance, formal verification, shared platforms, SDKs, and reusable infrastructure.
