Description

  • Lead engineering for Alpaca’s crypto spot and derivatives exchanges in the US and Bahamas.
  • Architect, specify, and build a perpetual futures exchange and its matching, collateral, liquidation, risk, settlement, custody, and accounting systems.
  • Develop public APIs, order management, KYC/AML, regulatory reporting, analytics, and compliance integrations.
  • Design scalable, fault-tolerant, low-latency systems for mission-critical financial trading.
  • Implement backend services and web applications.
  • Maintain software quality, test coverage, and participate in code reviews.
  • Troubleshoot incidents and reported defects.
  • Participate in on-call support for time-sensitive engineering projects.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define goals and independently deliver solutions.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of backend software development experience; level and title may vary by experience.
  • Experience building CLOB exchanges, HFT or market-making systems, high-performance matching engines, margin/liquidation engines, or comparable high-throughput, low-latency regulated financial systems.
  • Experience building crypto products or systems.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Go, Python, C/C++, Node.js, or Java; Alpaca’s platform uses Go.
  • SQL and relational database experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Bash, Linux, and Docker.
  • Kubernetes experience or CKA/CKAD certification preferred.
  • Experience with DevOps, NoSQL, CI/CD, cloud platforms, microservices, Agile/Scrum, or clean code principles preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets preferred.
