Description

  • Work with engineering leads to develop and validate a novel high-level vehicle architecture.
  • Develop novel algorithms for precise pointing of very large, flexible structures in Earth orbit and beyond.
  • Develop novel algorithms for precise pointing of mechanisms while characterizing and rejecting disturbances and jitter.
  • Develop novel slewing algorithms for very large, flexible structures in Earth orbit and beyond.
  • Develop simulation and modeling tools to support vehicle and GNC trade studies, including mission design, controls analysis, and 6-DOF simulation development.
  • Support the development of control infrastructure, including discrete filter design in the time domain and analysis in the frequency domain.
  • Own and execute the verification and validation plan for mechanism GNC to drive the system to flight readiness.
  • Update the GNC stack, 6-DOF simulation, HOOTL, and HITL based on analysis and lessons learned.
  • Commit code to the 6-DOF simulation and own part of the GNC flight software.
  • Support launch and on-orbit operations for the Trinity mission and follow-on block 2 GNC upgrades.
  • Recruit, hire, and mentor other engineers to help build the GNC organization.

Requirements

  • Experience with GNC actuator or sensor sizing, selection, and system design.
  • Experience implementing control and/or estimation algorithms.
  • Experience with verification and validation of GNC flight software in an integrated environment using 6-DOF simulation and HITL testing.
  • Experience with Python, Julia, C/C++, or Matlab for algorithm development, implementation, and simulation.
  • Experience with early-stage conceptual design or "clean sheet" design work (preferred).
  • Experience with control algorithm development (preferred).
  • Experience with reaction wheel, control moment gyroscope, motor, or thruster sizing and algorithm implementation (preferred).
  • Experience with navigation, specifically Extended Kalman Filters (preferred).
  • Experience with trajectory analysis, modeling, and mission design (preferred).
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export control license due to ITAR requirements.
