Description

  • Manage, mentor, and direct a team of Systems Designers through coaching, career development, performance management, hiring, and training.
  • Own the design, prototyping, iteration, and polish of gameplay systems including player mechanics, non-combat systems, world simulation, economy, progression, and game balance.
  • Prototype, implement, and iterate on gameplay systems using proprietary internal tools and scripting systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Gameplay Programming and other disciplines to support systems design and implementation.
  • Write and maintain clear gameplay system documentation, including tutorials and feature breakdowns.
  • Work with Project Management to plan schedules, set priorities, define milestones, and assign work to the team.
  • Review work in progress, gather feedback, and drive iteration to meet creative quality and milestone targets.
  • Partner with the Design Director and Game Director to ensure systems design aligns with creative and technical goals.
  • Create and enforce standards, metrics, and consistency across the game’s systems design.
  • Lead brainstorms and reviews, build alignment, and champion design vision and values across the team.

Requirements

  • Experience managing and mentoring designers, including interviewing, training, planning work, and performance management.
  • Experience designing and iterating on gameplay systems for large-scale game production.
  • Hands-on experience prototyping and implementing gameplay systems with proprietary tools and scripting systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience with level editing tools and scripting, such as Unreal Engine, Unity, or similar editors.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Maya or another major 3D modeling program.
  • Adobe Illustrator experience is a plus.
  • UE4 Blueprint scripting skills are a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Very good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and other developers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
