Description

  • Design and implement scalable, high-performance backend systems for the e-commerce experience.
  • Build and maintain APIs and interfaces for frontend, mobile, and third-party integrations.
  • Architect systems for membership access, catalog management, checkout, order fulfillment, and payments.
  • Own backend services end-to-end, including design, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and data teams to deliver features.
  • Contribute to code quality, testing, reliability, and observability best practices.
  • Help define backend architecture and make strategic technical decisions as the company scales.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience building and scaling backend systems in production environments.
  • 4+ years leading Ruby cloud stack teams as a Principal Engineer/Architect.
  • Deep Ruby expertise, including the Ruby object model, metaprogramming, macros, and DSLs.
  • Experience contributing to a widely used Ruby gem or building internal DSLs for domain-specific needs.
  • Strong experience building APIs and distributed services with Ruby, including GraphQL and RESTful interfaces.
  • Hands-on experience with Rails internals, AREL, performant code, and proper Sidekiq job handling.
  • Expert knowledge of e-commerce data modeling, including concurrency, inventory reservation, currency/price management, and third-party integration patterns.
  • Expertise with PostgreSQL, including complex joins, reporting queries, data modeling, and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with AWS, ECS, CodeBuild, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with multi-tenant systems, including access control, reporting, and authentication/authorization.
  • Strong understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithmic principles.
  • Comfort working in high-growth, early-stage environments with a bias toward action and strong product sense.
  • Clear communication and a collaborative mindset in a luxury tech brand environment.
  • Bonus: prior experience in e-commerce, marketplaces, or membership-based platforms.
  • Bonus: familiarity with event-driven architectures and message queues such as Kafka or SQS.
  • Bonus: experience working closely with design or product teams in consumer-facing companies.
  • Bonus: interest in fashion, luxury, or retail innovation.
