Description

  • Improve and maintain open-source machine learning libraries such as Transformers, Datasets, PyTorch, and vLLM.
  • Collaborate with users and contributors across GitHub, forums, and Slack on issues, reviews, and feature work.
  • Help foster and support an active open-source machine learning community.
  • Work with researchers, ML practitioners, and data scientists in a distributed, asynchronous environment.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the open-source ML ecosystem with work that aligns to business and community impact.
  • Review and respond to community contributions and discussions in public channels.
  • Brainstorm with the team to identify high-impact areas of ownership and technical contribution.

Requirements

  • Strong Python skills and experience writing clean, well-tested, maintainable library code.
  • Deep hands-on experience with a modern deep-learning framework, especially PyTorch (JAX or TensorFlow is a plus).
  • Practical experience with the Hugging Face open-source stack, including Transformers, Datasets, and Accelerate, or comparable ML libraries.
  • A public track record of open-source contributions, such as merged pull requests to ML or data libraries, that can be reviewed on GitHub.
  • Solid understanding of modern machine learning and deep learning, including transformer architectures.
  • Experience collaborating with a technical community in public channels such as GitHub issues and reviews, forums, Slack, or Discord.
  • Fluent written English for asynchronous collaboration across a global distributed community.
  • Experience maintaining an open-source project is a plus.
  • Prior contributions to Transformers, Datasets, Accelerate, or similar libraries are preferred.
  • Familiarity with distributed training, inference optimization, or GPU/accelerator performance work is a plus.
  • Experience training or fine-tuning models at scale is a plus.
  • A cover letter that explains why you want to work in open source at Hugging Face and notes the topics you want to work on.
