Description

  • Improve and maintain open-source machine learning libraries such as Transformers, Datasets, PyTorch, and vLLM.
  • Collaborate with users and contributors across the open-source ML ecosystem through GitHub, forums, and Slack.
  • Work closely with researchers, ML practitioners, and data scientists on library development and support.
  • Help foster and support one of the most active machine learning communities.
  • Contribute to making complex machine learning technology more accessible to a broad audience.
  • Participate in ongoing open-source work that is impactful and aligned with your interests.
  • Engage in issue discussions, code reviews, and asynchronous collaboration with a distributed community.

Requirements

  • Strong Python skills and experience writing clean, well-tested, maintainable library code.
  • Deep hands-on experience with a modern deep-learning framework, especially PyTorch; JAX or TensorFlow is a plus.
  • Practical experience with the Hugging Face open-source stack, including Transformers, Datasets, and Accelerate, or comparable ML libraries.
  • A public track record of open-source contributions that can be reviewed on GitHub, such as merged pull requests to ML or data libraries.
  • Solid understanding of modern machine learning and deep learning, including transformer architectures.
  • Experience collaborating with a technical community in public spaces such as GitHub issues, reviews, forums, Slack, or Discord.
  • Fluent written English for asynchronous collaboration across a distributed, global community.
  • Experience maintaining an open-source project is a plus.
  • Prior contributions to Transformers, Datasets, Accelerate, or similar libraries are a plus.
  • Familiarity with distributed training, inference optimization, or GPU/accelerator performance work is a plus.
  • Experience training or fine-tuning models at scale is a plus.
  • A cover letter that explains why you want to work in open source at Hugging Face.
