Description

  • Redesign and optimize data models, queries, and indexing across MongoDB, Firestore, and Elasticsearch.
  • Own Elasticsearch reliability, including ingestion, indexing, shard strategy, and query performance across billions of documents.
  • Improve system reliability and performance by eliminating bottlenecks, strengthening replication health, and maintaining predictable latency.
  • Define data-flow and integration boundaries across storage, caching, and APIs with clear contracts and fault isolation.
  • Build observability through metrics, traces, slow-query logs, replication monitoring, and cluster-health dashboards.
  • Establish unit, integration, and load-testing standards across backend modules.
  • Lead RFCs, ADRs, design reviews, and reusable engineering patterns.
  • Write code, design systems, and troubleshoot production issues as a hands-on technical leader.
  • Mentor engineers and influence architecture across teams and functions, including Finance, Risk, Support, and Product.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building high-scale, mission-critical backend systems.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems, concurrency, event-driven architectures, consistency, idempotency, and atomic operations.
  • Experience with systems where correctness has financial consequences, such as metering, billing, ledgers, reservations, or payment gateways.
  • Strong experience with relational and NoSQL data models, streaming systems, and analytical stores for time-windowed aggregation.
  • Experience designing configurable policy or rules-driven systems with versioning, safe rollout, and rollback capabilities.
  • Experience setting enforcement thresholds that prevent abuse while minimizing impact on legitimate customers.
  • Experience with monitoring, SLOs, and root-cause analysis in production environments.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership without formal authority across multi-team platforms.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, ClickHouse, Go, Redis, Flink, Kafka Streams, Beam, Node.js, or comparable technologies is preferred; fraud, abuse prevention, AI tools, billing, and metered-systems experience is also valued.
