Description

  • Define the architecture, service boundaries, data models, APIs, workflows, and integrations for the EU AI Act Compliance Engine.
  • Design a versioned, testable, explainable, and maintainable regulation-as-data rules engine.
  • Build automated obligation mapping and risk-tier classification for registered AI systems.
  • Create conformity-assessment workflows for governance teams to manage applicable obligations and evidence.
  • Develop secure, reliable, observable cloud-native services using Python and supporting technologies.
  • Establish engineering standards for testing, CI/CD, code review, documentation, observability, incident readiness, and secure SDLC practices.
  • Validate and improve rules-engine and risk-tiering logic using representative AI systems and regulatory scenarios.
  • Partner with product, security, legal, governance, and engineering stakeholders to turn requirements into technical deliverables.
  • Make architecture decisions that balance correctness, extensibility, delivery speed, and operational risk.
  • Mentor future hires and help build the Portugal R&D engineering culture.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience delivering production software systems and making architecture decisions in complex technical domains.
  • Experience with Python and Golang.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, distributed systems, APIs, data modeling, and secure software development.
  • Ability to translate evolving, complex requirements into technical models, maintainable rules, and reliable workflows.
  • Hands-on experience writing production code, reviewing designs, and troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to align engineering, product, security, and governance stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and establishing engineering practices.
  • Based in Lisbon, Portugal, with professional fluency in English.
  • Experience with compliance, governance, risk, audit, policy, workflow, or other rules-driven enterprise software (preferred).
  • Knowledge of the EU AI Act, AI governance, model risk management, conformity assessment, or related regulatory frameworks (preferred).
