Description

  • Own the strategy, roadmap, and execution for foundational Tax Platform systems across multiple quarters and years.
  • Define and evolve the Tax Platform strategy so it aligns with Gusto’s broader Tax strategy.
  • Prioritize, sequence, and make tradeoffs across ambiguous platform problems.
  • Partner with Engineering, Compliance, Legal, CX, Data Science, and Product teams to align priorities and unblock dependencies.
  • Drive adoption of shared platform capabilities across internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Translate platform work into customer and business outcomes to communicate impact and value.
  • Use data, domain expertise, and partner input to prioritize initiatives that improve accuracy, timeliness, trust, and operational reliability.
  • Advocate for durable, correct, and scalable solutions while maintaining momentum through incremental delivery.
  • Set clear success metrics and guide platform decisions with measurable outcomes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product management experience.
  • Meaningful ownership of platform teams, strategy, and multi-year initiatives that created leverage across multiple teams or product areas.
  • Experience operating in complex, multi-product environments with cross-team dependencies and internal platform customers.
  • Strong system-level thinking and product judgment.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, make hard tradeoffs, and drive clarity without relying on consensus.
  • Experience evolving or modernizing critical systems over time while balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform health and risk reduction.
  • Comfort working in regulated or compliance-sensitive domains such as payroll tax, fintech, HR, or legal tech.
  • Deep appreciation for accuracy, auditability, and customer trust.
  • Proven ability to partner closely with engineering teams and translate between platform decisions, customer impact, and business outcomes.
  • Strong point of view on building products in the age of AI; experience building AI-driven features is a big bonus.

Benefits

  • Competitive base pay with equity (RSUs) for all full-time employees.
  • Cash compensation target of $180,000 to $224,000 per year in Denver and most major metro locations.
  • Cash compensation target of $210,000 to $263,000 per year in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle.
  • Health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR-related support as part of Gusto’s core offerings.
  • Remote team members across the US and Canada, with offices in Denver, San Francisco, and New York.
  • Hybrid office expectations of approximately 2-3 days per week for employees based in office locations.
