Description

  • Execute a comprehensive global payments strategy aligned with business objectives and growth targets across all markets.
  • Manage end-to-end payment operations, including payment processor relationships, gateway integrations, and operational procedures.
  • Own commercial strategy and lead negotiations with payment processors, acquirers, and fintech partners to secure optimal terms, pricing, routing, and contracts.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize payment acceptance rates, reduce transaction costs, improve conversion and settlement times, and enhance customer payment experiences.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and primary stakeholder for payment-related product development and platform enhancements, partnering with Product and Engineering.
  • Partner closely with Finance to own and optimize payments unit economics, including transaction costs, authorization rates, chargebacks, and take-rate impact.
  • Collaborate with Risk and Compliance (and fraud teams) to ensure adherence to PCI DSS, PSD2, SCA, SOX, and other regional regulatory requirements and fraud prevention strategies.
  • Establish, monitor, and report key performance metrics for payment operations (authorization rates, conversion, settlement times, cost efficiency) and provide strategic counsel to executive leadership.
  • Drive payment innovation by evaluating and implementing emerging payment methods and technologies (real-time payments, stablecoins, BNPL/installments, tokenization) and AI/ML for automation and predictive routing.
  • Coordinate payment infrastructure planning to support scaling requirements, international expansion, and maintain comprehensive documentation of payment flows and vendor agreements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Computer Science, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive payments experience (or 8+ years with an advanced degree), with at least 4 years in a senior strategic or leadership capacity.
  • Deep expertise in payment processing systems, merchant acquiring, card networks, and alternative payment methods, with proven experience directing complex payment operations for high-volume e-commerce or marketplace platforms.
  • Strong understanding of payment security and compliance standards (PCI-DSS, PSD2, SCA, SOX) and fraud prevention/risk management methodologies.
  • Proven experience negotiating and managing relationships with payment processors, acquirers, and financial institution partners.
  • Solid grasp of international payment methods, cross-border transaction requirements, regional compliance standards, and multi-currency settlement/FX optimization (nice-to-have).
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to translate complex payment data into actionable business insights and improve unit economics.
  • Technical fluency with payment APIs, webhooks, integration architectures, and familiarity with how AI/ML models integrate into payment gateways and fraud engines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise-wide initiatives, influence outcomes without direct authority, and communicate effectively with technical and C-suite stakeholders.
  • Experience scaling payment operations through high-growth phases or international expansion, and knowledge of emerging payment technologies (nice-to-have).

  • Hiring range $136,640 - $200,800 USD (starting pay determined by work location, experience, skills, and internal parity).
  • Geographic pay tiers based on U.S. home state: Tier 1 $160,700 - $200,800; Tier 2 $144,700 - $180,800; Tier 3 $136,640 - $170,800.
